~ ~ ~ The Lutheran Elementary School of Bay Ridge (LES) has been a mainstay of the community since our founding in 1957. LES has a rich heritage, having been founded by one of the most dynamic churches in Brooklyn – Bethlehem Lutheran Church. We offer the highest quality education in a nurturing, yet challenging environment for children in Nursery School through Grade 8. Our staff has an extraordinary breadth of expertise and gets to know each child individually, which is critical in providing a solid education. L.E.S. of Bay Ridge is a fully accredited school, chartered by the NYS Board of Regents of the NYS Education Department. LES is proud to offer a strong education in all critical areas: English, science, mathematics, social studies, history, geography, civics, technology/computers, religion, music and art.
Our Signature Programs
EARLY DROP-OFF & AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS
While our classes begins at 8:30 A.M., children may be dropped off as early as 7:30 A.M. at no additional cost to parents. We also extend the school day until 6:00 P.M. for those that need it.
We're teamed up with Artsonia.com - the world's largest online kid's art museum to display our student's artwork at www.artsonia.com/schools/Lutheran13.
Our Pre-School and Primary School Music Program is under the direction of Kevin MacCallum, Founder/Director of "City Stomp." His distinguished theatrical career included training at the Royal Mannes School of Music, the Court Theater in London, and a B.S. in acting and directing from Northwestern University. Mr. MacCallum was recently nominated for Best Music Program in Brooklyn by Nick Jr. and Go City Kids...one of only four programs to be honored.
5th Grade students participate in the "Legal Lives" program, sponsored by the Brooklyn District Attorney's office. On a regular basis an Assistant District Attorney meets with our class to teach them about the judicial system, provides a Court tour, and works with them on conducting a mock trial.
LES offers an outdoor playground for all of our students. Your children are here for the nicest part of the day, and we believe that they all need to get outdoors to run, play and socialize.
Our Junior High students participate in a 3-year Rosetta Stone program with studies in Spanish, French and Italian. This program is designed to help expose students to different languages so that they are better able to choose the language they want to take in high school.
We are extremely proud to offer a more challenging and accelerated curriculum in our Junior High Honors Porgram. It is offered in both Language Arts and Math, and our 8th Grade students are also offered an Honors class in Social Studies.
Each year our Junior High students are offered the opportunity to participate in our musical productions. Under the direction of Lisa Johnson, our students have performed "Beauty and the Beast," "Fiddler on the Roof," and "Guys and Dolls" to name a few.
We offer both morning and full-day programs to meet the needs of our parents and students. Full-day students also have the option of attending our After-School Program. In partnership with the NYC Department of Education, we offer speech therapy, counseling, and SETTS to children with NYC Department of Education Individualized Education Program (IEP) designations. |
